| Explication of my friends list |

A brief rundown of how I know who on my friends list. Which is sorta misleading because there are plenty of people on my friends list whom I've never met. I use my friends list as a list of "interesting LiveJournals I like to keep up with".
agentxpndble: Midwestern science fiction fan. I met her this year at wiscon.
athenais: A friend and fellow science fiction fan.
autopope: Science fiction writer Charles Stross.
beeker121: Don't remember how I found her journal. She lives locally so maybe she used to be in an LJ community I'm in. She doesn't update very often.
belmikey: Way-back acquaintance from USENET (e.g., rec.arts.startrek). Turns out he also knows my ex-girlfriend Colleen.
bibliofile: Fellow science fiction fan from the Midwest. I believe we used to be in an APA together.
billzilla: Midwestern science fiction fan, I know him through his wife replyhazy.
stephaniebambam: Think I came across her journal due to some of our shared interests. I thought she was in the Bay Area, but I see now she isn't.
bookzombie: British science fiction fan. Met him this year a wiscon, and he just started his LJ when he got back.
brisingamen: British science fiction fan. We used to be in an APA together, and have run into each other at wiscon several times.
britgeekgrrl: Friend of gaaneden. Also a Bay Area fannish sort, although I think of a different stripe than me.
ceejbot: RSS feed for my friend CJ's blog.
chanson: A cow-orker of mine.
cynthia1960: Bay Area science fiction fan, I mainly know her through her significant other whumpdotcom.
dampha: Former cow-orker of mine in the Midwest.
diony: Longtime web journaller, we encountered each other on-line in the late 90s, and met at Worldcon in San Antonio in 1997. We see each other occasionally in a local coffee shop.
elisabat: Found her journal through lilibat's. She doesn't update very often anymore.
elmyra: European fannish sort. Stumbled on her journal by accident somehow.
entelein: Midwestern journaller, we met at Journalcon 2002.
gaaneden: I actually don't at all remember how we encountered each other, but it was before I moved to the Bay Area, I think. We met a few times here before she moved to Seattle to work for the Evil Empire. Coincidentally, at one job in the Bay Area she departed and was later sorta-kinda replaced by another friend of mine.
gerisullivan: Midwestern fan now living in the Northeast. We were in at least one APA together, and have met at several Minicons.
hsien_lung: Stumbled across her LJ by using the "Random LJ" feature. She's a comic book fan in the northeast, which I think is what interested me about her journal.
inebrigoth: Bay Area goth who I think has moved out of the area. I would have guessed I found her through lilibat's LJ, but they don't have each other on their friends list. Possibly I found her journal through one of the local communities on LJ.
jentwo: Friend of koroshiya, we met when Trish brought her to our friend BC's birthday party.
jezebeltw: Local journaller, I found her journal through mountain_view. I've seen her around twice, we haven't said hello. She's amusing. We both have rmjwell on our friends lists, but only coincidentally so far as I know.
jolest: Midwestern fan I've known for years, who just started his LJ.
jrittenhouse: Midwestern fan I've known for years. One of my best friends, even though we hardly see each other anymore since I moved out here. Husband of marmot63.
juliebata: Midwestern fan, I know her through her ex whumpdotcom.
kajafoglio: Cartoonist and wife of philfoglio. I've seen her at cons, but haven't met her personally.
kimmaline: Local baseball fan. I think I found her journal when looking for local baseball-related LiveJournals.
koroshiya: Longtime web journaller, we met on-line before I moved to the Bay Area, and became friends when I moved here. Now living in the high plains states.
laurel: Midwestern fan and longtime journaller. We met once at a Minicon but mainly know each other on-line.
lilibat: Bay Area goth. We were in an APA together for several years in the early 90s. I think I found her LJ through superiorstudio.
marmot63: A friend, I know her through her husband jrittenhouse.
mausie: Midwestern fan, friend, and wife of panfer.
michaellee: Midwestern fan and Doctor Who feek. We also went to graduate school together, as I recall.
msagara: SF author (?) who had an interesting LJ that she seems to have abandoned. I think I found her journal through sleigh.
muskrat_john: Madison cartoonist John Kovalic.
obadiah: Bay Area fan and friend. We met through our book discussion group. I helped him get his current job at Apple. We see each other at wiscon and other cons.
panfer: Midwestern fan, friend, and husband of mausie.
philfoglio: One of my favoritest cartoonists ever.
rawdon: Me.
replyhazy: Midwestern fan, friend, former cow-orker, and attendee (and former chair!) of wiscon.
richardsrussell: Midwestern fan and attendee of wiscon.
rmjwell: Midwestern fan who moved to the Bay Area a few years ago. We used to see each other a lot in connection with jrittenhouse, but these days we mainly see each other at cons.
sarahnade: Found her journal through mountain_view.
sleigh: Science fiction writer Stephen Leigh. I like his books.
choiceful: Local LiveJournaller. I don't recall how I found her journaller.
stealthpup: We used to be in an APA together, and have met at wiscon at least once.
angelcityblues: Found her journal through a random LJ search, I think. We don't have much in common, but I enjoy her writing.
sunshine__girl: She friended me I think because she saw my journal on someone else's friends list (maybe choiceful?) and I returned the favor.
superiorstudio: A longtime APAhacking friend of mine. He doesn't update his LJ.
tightscience: A longtime journaller I met at Journalcon 2002, though I'd been reading her off and on for a while before then. She doesn't update her LJ, and only occasionally updates her main journal.
timill: I think he's on the Red Sox mailing list and friended me when he found my LiveJournal. Looks like he's also an SF fan and shares some of my acquaintances.
troublebrewing: Madison fan, friend, and attendee of wiscon.
velvetsiren: I think I found her journal through lilibat's.
warsop: Local computer geek, I think I found her journal through my brief foray looking at LJMatch (which seems to be defunct). It's ridiculously easy to beat their identity obfuscation tricks. He haven't met, but we have a fair bit in common.
westwardho: A cow-orker and friend of mine.
whumpdotcom: Friend, science fiction fan, computer geek, etc. etc. I helped him find his current job at Apple.
Believe it or not, this is not an unmanageable number of journals to follow. Which is probably why I sometimes go out plumbing looking for new ones to follow. |
